The right motorcycle jacket is a must

Before you hop on your motorcycle and hit the open road, there is one thing you must first do: Dress accordingly.

While many people neglect to do so, others have come to find that this is one of the best things they can do to protect their body in the event of an accident.

Simply put, wearing the right motorcycle jacket at all times is an absolute must. Here are some points to consider when making a purchase:

-- Choose a jacket with body armor. Remember this: The more armor it includes the better protected your skin will be in the event of an accident.

-- Range of motion is important. Even if a jacket is providing a high level of protection, it isn't a good choice unless you still have complete range of motion. You don't want to be restricted in any way, shape, or form.

-- A snug fit is best. As long as your range of motion isn't restricted, a snug fit is always better than a loose fit.

-- Opt for a motorcycle jacket with ventilation. As one of our Texas readers, for example, you know that it can get hot when riding your bike. This is why you want to choose a jacket with ventilation.

Just because you are wearing a motorcycle jacket doesn't mean that you will never be involved in an accident. However, with this piece of protective equipment, you have a better chance of avoiding an upper body injury in the event of a crash.

If you are involved in a crash, don't wait to receive medical attention. Also, make note of what happened, if possible, as you may be able to file a lawsuit against a negligent party with the idea of receiving compensation.
