Texas authorities urge drivers to be cautious of motorcyclists

With the warm weather upon us, motorcycles are everywhere. As summer begins, the Texas Department of Public Safety reminds drivers to pay attention to motorcyclists and use extra caution.

One rider who said he has been on a motorcycle for 42 years said that he has to be a defensive driver. He said that since text messaging became popular, he's been forced off the road many times because of people texting while driving or talking on their cellphones. He said that while drivers need to be more aware of motorcycles, the bikers can do things to lower their risk of an accident, too. Dressing in brighter-colored clothes makes a rider easier to see. Riders need to stand out, maintain their lane position and always be on the lookout for what's ahead.

The rider said he's been in four serious crashes. One was due to mechanical failure, but the other three were caused by other drivers. The DPS wants all drivers to remember to "Share the Road: Look Twice for Motorcycles." That was the public awareness campaign that DPS used during May, which was Motorcycle Safety and Awareness month.

Have you or a loved one been injured in a motorcycle accident that wasn't your fault? If that is the case, you have a right to seek compensation through a personal injury lawsuit. You may be eligible to pursue compensation for your medical expenses, pain and suffering, emotional trauma, disability and much more. A lawyer who is experienced in handling motorcycle accidents can provide you with additional information on your legal options.
