Fatal motorcycle accident statistics in Texas

Motorcycle accidents often involve serious or fatal injuries because of the lack of protection the motorcyclists and his or her passenger have. In Texas in 2014, there were 463 fatalities in motorcycle accidents. Of those fatalities, 231 people were not wearing a helmet. In Texas, only those 20 years old and younger are required by law to wear a helmet.

The age with the most fatalities was 27. Twenty-one motorcyclists who were 27 years old were killed in 2014 in motorcycle accidents. Ten of those fatalities were not wearing a helmet. Three passengers were killed who were age 27 and one was not wearing a helmet.

In terms of injuries, two ages were tied for the most incapacitating injuries in motorcycle accidents in Texas in 2014: 23 and 50 years old. While the type of injury that was considered incapacitating was not listed, 25 of the 50-year-old riders and 15 of the 23-year-old riders did not wear a helmet. Seven passengers suffered incapacitating injuries and were ages 19, 23, 44 and 51. Of those 28 passengers, 12 were not wearing a helmet.

When someone is injured or killed in a motorcycle accident that was no fault of his or her own, the victim or his or her family has a right to seek compensation. This is done in civil court and is separate from any criminal charges that may be filed. Criminal charges aren't required in order for someone to file a civil claim.

If you are ready to pursue compensation from an at-fault driver in a motorcycle accident, you will find an attorney's help and guidance to be very valuable.
