4 school buses in crash results in 20 injured Temple students

It only takes a split-second for an accident to occur. It can involve one person or more than 100. A recent accident involving four Temple ISD school buses and a semi-truck involved about 100 Temple ISD students.

The accident happened on this past Friday night as the students were on their way to Bryan for a playoff game. The students included those in band, ROTC, cheerleading and Kittens. According to a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper, one of the buses clipped a mirror on a flatbed trailer truck. The driver of the bus then started braking, which ended up in a chain reaction collision.

According to initial reports, there were about 15 children injured and transported to the hospital. A later, updated report stated there were 20 children injured. The fire chief from Cameron, Texas, stated that most of the injuries were scrapes, bruises and sore necks.

An alumnus from Temple High was behind the caravan of buses when the bus accident occurred. The woman first noticed a semi-truck driving on the shoulder on the opposite side of the road. Traffic came to a standstill on her side. She said her and her husband walked up to find the school buses involved in the wreck.

The injured students were taken to Baylor Scott & White hospital in Temple and a Cameron hospital. It is not known how if the drivers of the buses or the semi were injured.

As a parent, one of the most horrifying things to learn is that your child was involved in a motor vehicle accident. Some injuries, such as whiplash, can take several months to heal. Some other injuries may never be recovered from.

The parents of an injured child can pursue claims on their child's behalf for pain and suffering, medical expenses, emotional trauma and more. An experienced Texas personal injury attorney can provide additional information.
