Summer months see more car accidents in Texas

Last year, over 3,000 individuals were killed in Texas car accidents. That approximates to eight people a day. As such, Texas drivers are encouraged to be cautious this summer, especially between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend, which -- for teen drivers -- have earned a reputation for being the 100 deadliest days of summer.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, summer is the most dangerous time of the year for car accidents, and the most fatalities happen during August. According to one Texas state trooper, this is because there are a lot of people taking summer vacations, which translates into more cars on the roads. Also, this year, gas prices are lower, which is also encouraging more people to take to the roadways.

According to AAA, one of the biggest problems that results in car crashes involves distracted drivers. Just taking one's eyes off traffic for two seconds will double a driver's chances of being involved in an automobile collision. AAA is therefore reminding drivers to avoid distractions at all cost. One of the most common kinds of distractions is texting-and-driving, which is illegal in the state of Texas. AAA also encourages motorists to drive the speed limit and use safety belts.

Waco residents who are injured in car accidents may wish to investigate how their accident may have happened and who is at fault for the incident. Fault could mean liability for damages in court if a personal injury claim is pursued relating to a collision. Damages typically claimed in a car accident case include the costs associated with medical care, pain and suffering, lost wages, lost quality of life and other damages.
