Car seat safety can protect kids on Texas roads

There are many things that drivers in Waco, Texas, can do to keep their families safe on the roads. That includes everything from driving carefully to being very aware of the actions of other drivers in the vicinity. It also includes making sure that the children in your car are as safe and secure as they can be. One of the most important ways of doing that is a strong focus on car seat safety.

At the beginning of the 21st century, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration affirmed that half of the children 15 and younger who died in car crashes had been unrestrained at the time. This data was a clarion call to parents and concerned citizens about the need to make sure that all children are safe and secure when traveling in vehicles.

Indeed, Texas law requires that children who are either under the age of 8 or under 4'9" tall have to be in a safety seat when riding in a vehicle. Additionally, the safety seat that they're in must be appropriate for their height and size. That is an important consideration for parents, who should make sure that the safety seat they use for each child is a good match for that child.

Babies are required to travel in rear-facing car seats until they are at least 1 year of age and at least 20 pounds. Their car seats should not be placed where an airbag will come out in the case of an accident, since it could suffocate them. Babies' car seats should also be at a 45-degree angle, or the angle specified for that seat in that particular car. In addition to these requirements, there are others that parents of young children should be aware of. Those can be found at the websites of organizations like the Texas Children's Center for Childhood Injury Prevention.

There have also been a number of recalls of child safety seats. Manufacturers of these and other defective products could be held liable for injuries or deaths that result from the product's use.
