Common injuries from trampolines

Trampolines can be a lot of fun for your children. However, as a parent, it's important for you to know that there are a lot of injuries that can take place on the trampoline. This is true even when it is used correctly and when you use additional safety equipment. This can include a net that goes around the trampoline and keeps people from accidentally jumping off of it.

One of the most common injuries is a broken bone, usually in a wrist, arm or leg. For minor breaks, a cast may be all that is needed. However, major breaks and compound fractures could mean that your child needs surgery to reset the bone so that it can heal.

Head injuries are also rather common. In the most minor cases, these could be just bumps and bruises, but children may also suffer from cuts and lacerations. Additionally, a hard enough impact could lead to a concussion. This sometimes happens when two children collide while jumping.

Sprains and strains are also very common. A child could sprain an ankle by coming down and landing awkwardly on someone else's foot, for example. A mild sprain may go away quickly, especially when wrapped. However, some sprains stay for a long time, as the foot is much more likely to be sprained a second time if it is already injured.

The most serious injuries are those to the head and neck, which often happen when people are attempting to do flips. A neck injury can cause a child to be paralyzed and could even prove to be fatal.

If your child is injured on a trampoline, especially if a defective design or a defective part leads to the injury, look into your legal options.
