Texas cosmetics store car crash causes injuries

People get injured in car accidents every day. This can happen if they are a driver or a passenger, on country roads or city streets and at any time of year. However, it is fair to say that absolutely no one expects to be in a car accident while shopping at a cosmetics store. Yet, that is exactly what happened in Texas recently, when a vehicle hit a building and went straight through a storefront window.

The shoppers at the store, Ulta Beauty, were surprised. They had to scramble to get out of the way as the vehicle came racing in. As they tried to escape its path, the car kept coming into the cosmetics store, winding two car lengths inside. The car was a Buick sedan.

To say that store employees were caught off-guard would be an understatement. One said they thought an IED had gone off when they heard the loud crashing sound. As the car started going across the sales floor, it was apparent what had happened, even though it wasn't clear why.

Investigators subsequently found out that the woman driving the vehicle, 30, had put the car into forward gear. She was attempting to move it into a parking spot. However, car reportedly accelerated. When it did, it jumped the curb. Next, it went through the glass storefront window and into the store, heading directly at disconcerted shoppers.

The woman driving the car was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Two of the people who had been in the store suffered minor injuries. Both were treated at local hospitals. This case can serve as a reminder that car accidents can happen anywhere, and to consider carefully every action taken with a vehicle, even getting into a parking spot. If you are injured in a car accident -- even if you were inside a store that was hit -- you may have the right to seek compensation from the at-fault driver.
