Harrison Davis Steakley Morrison, P.C. partner Matt Morrison was selected to receive the F. Scott Baldwin Award by the American Association for Justice (AAJ) at its annual convention in Chicago, Illinois on July 30, 2012.
The F. Scott Baldwin Award is given to a lawyer who is nominated by the 65,000 member AAJ organization as someone who has made a significant contribution to the practice of law and has attained one or more outstanding trial verdicts. On March 16, 2012, following a two week trial in Salt Lake City, Utah returned a verdict in the amount of $3,303,213 on behalf of Matt's clients, whose father died because a doctor overprescribed the narcotic analgesic, methadone. Less than a month later, Matt completed a second, two-week trial in Bangor, Maine. After less than two hours' of deliberation, the jury unanimously returned a verdict in the Plaintiff's favor in the amount of $1,912,934.
Matt graduated from Baylor Law School in 2001 where he served as the Senior Articles Editor of the Baylor Law Review and president of the Harvey M. Richey Moot Court Society. His practice focuses exclusively on the representation of plaintiffs in wrongful death, pharmaceutical and medical device litigation. As a result of his dedication to the rights of his clients and the pursuit of justice, Matt has been repeatedly recognized by Texas Monthly Magazine as a Rising Star in Texas Law.
His dedication to protecting the safety of medical patients does not stop at the courthouse door. A hospital in Austin, Texas requested that Matt come and speak to its entire residency staff regarding the mistakes he sees physicians make across the country when prescribing narcotics to patients. Matt will travel wherever needed to do what it possible to safeguard patients, whether that involves holding physicians responsible in the court of law or prophylactically addressing the issue with physicians before mistakes are made.
Steve Harrison said of his law partner, "When Matt announces "ready" for trial ... he is! His strategy is well thought and refined continuously. He leaves no stone unturned in his preparation. Matt's trial skills, mental toughness and work ethic set the bar high for all of us. We are very proud of Matt and his dedication to the clients of our firm."
